Gilda’s Club Simcoe Muskoka

The grant from Blue Mountain Village Foundation will help fund Children from our area to participate in the Noogieland Program.

This year round program provides a safe place to express, understand and learn to manage emotions for children who may themselves have cancer, or who may have a parent or sibling diagnosed with cancer.  The program helps them understand the disease and develop age-appropriate ways to cope with emotions like anxiety, fear, depression and grief.   The program provides supportive activities that include art and play, led by experienced social workers with specialized backgrounds in pediatric oncology and qualified volunteers helping children learn communication skills, relaxation techniques and how to identify and share feelings.

Every second person in Ontario will be affected by cancer in their lifetime.  Either they will be diagnosed with cancer, or someone they care about will.   These individuals and families are under tremendous stress.  Many children who are affected by cancer face a confusing and fearful experience if they are not connected with an integrated, comprehensive program of emotional and social support.
