Collingwood General & Marine Hospital Foundation

The grant from Blue Mountain Village Foundation will fund the Emergency Department Renovation.  The demand for emergency medical treatment in Collingwood has grown exponentially over the past 10 years, yet the modestly sized Emergency Department has remained the same size and layout since 1999.

According to the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care Standards, this department is less than half the size it should be.  This project will improve the comfort, flow and efficiency of the area.  Simple changes such as knocking out walls to improve sight lines for nursing staff, dividing the central nursing stations into small mobile pods around the Emergency Department will bring care partners closer to patients and replacing stretchers with patient recliners will provide more space to patients.  The ultimate goal is to be ready for the most critically ill with they arrive.  Optimizing space and improving patient flow allows the care team to respond more quickly.
