Celebrated local operatic tenor, Craig Ashton, brings together his friends from The Canadian Opera Company for an evening of the world’s most loved music from the stages of Opera and Broadway. A free performance and romantic night under the stars, starting at 8pm. 
Meet the singers below!
Craig Ashton, Tenor
 
Craig Ashton is no stranger to the limelight of the stage. Craig was raised in Fergus, Ontario and inherited his family’s various musical talents, especially his father’s beautiful lyric tenor voice. A finalist in the Canadian Opera Company’s (COC) Young Mozart Singers’ Competition, he was accepted into the prestigious COC Ensemble Studio. Craig has performed leading roles in eminent productions by the COC, Toronto Opera in Concert, Toronto Operetta Theatre, The Banff Festival, and Vancouver Opera. In musical theatre, his greatest triumphs are The Gondoliers at the Stratford Festival, and Hal Prince’s The Phantom of the Opera and Show Boat. He was also a member of the original Canadian Tenors.
Jan Vaculik, Baritone 
 
Slovakian-born baritone Jan Vaculik is praised for his bright voice full of natural lightness and his daring yet sensitive interpretations. Jan has been an active member of the Canadian Opera Company (COC) in Toronto for the past 7 seasons. In 2010, Mr. Vaculik had his solo debut with the COC in Death in Venice. Jan last appeared on the COC mainstage in 2015 in La Traviata and in The Barber of Seville. His other operatic credits include Madama Butterfly
Carmen, Don PasqualeCavalleria RusticanaI PagliacciDon Giovanni, and The Marriage of Figaro. Jan regularly toured Germany with the Festival Ensemble Stuttgart and performed on a tour in China.
Katie Knapp, Mezzo Soprano
 
Katie’s performance highlights include the title role in Handel's Julius Caesar, Juno in Semele, Bradamante in Alcina, Dido in Purcell's Dido & Aeneas, Dorabella in Mozart's Cosi fan tutte, the title role in Holst's Savitri and Mistress Quickly in the Verdi's Falstaff. Solo Concert performances include Elgar’s Sea Pictures, Mozart’s Requiem, Handel’s Messiah, and Bach’s Magnificat.  Katie performs regularly as a member of the Canadian Opera Company (COC) Chorus, having recently toured with the company to New York for performances of Handel's Semele at the Brooklyn Academy of Music. 
Susan Black, Piano
 
Susan Black is both a pianist and a mezzo-soprano. In her role as a collaborative pianist, she has performed numerous recitals with soloists, as well as touring with a variety of choirs from across Canada. She received her Master’s degree in collaborative piano from the University of Toronto in 2013. As a singer, Susan has performed in several opera productions in Canada, the U.S. and Europe, and has been a member of the Canadian Opera Company (COC) Chorus since 2001. She's currently on faculty at both York University and the University of Toronto's Opera Division and is music director at Erindale Presbyterian Church in Mississauga.
Teresa van der Hoeven, Soprano
 

Originally from Kingston, Ontario, Soprano Teresa van der Hoeven fell in love with singing at a very early age. She pursued music as a member of the Ontario and National Youth choirs and studied voice performance at McGill University. Teresa has performed throughout North America and Europe, both as a soloist and chorister. Performances include staged versions of Charpantier’s oratorios in Paris, Mozart’s Requiem in Prague, as well as a six-week tour of Victoria and Palestrina spanning France and Luxembourg. Teresa has performed with L’Opera du Quebec, L’Opera de Montreal and can be found regularly on stage at The Four Seasons Centre of the Performing Arts singing with the Canadian Opera Company (COC).
