In order to understand the benefits of being a member of the Blue Mountain Village Association, it is important to understand its mandate.  The BMVA is a not for profit association formed to manage and maintain the common areas and facilities of the Blue Mountain Village, as well as provide events and marketing associated with the Village.  Our principal responsibilities include destination marketing, events management, garbage and snow removal, replacement or repair of damaged infrastructure, stewardship of the Mill Pond, operation of Plunge! Aqua Centre, seasonal decorations, landscaping, security and entertainment of our guests.  We also interface with all levels of government and other resort stakeholders/partners to represent our members’ best interests.  In summary, our mandate is to ensure the Village is recognized as a premier four-season destination by meeting the highest standards applicable and by doing so, enhance and provide sustainability of our members’ investment.

Membership

Every stakeholder in the Village is a member of the BMVA.  Stakeholders are voting members of the BMVA and are encouraged to participate in the direction of the BMVA by becoming a member of the Board and/or Committees and attending the Annual General Meeting.  This allows each member to have a voice in their Village Association.

Property Tax Classification   

Membership in the BMVA is a requirement for reclassification of property tax class for properties in short-term rental programs from Commercial to Resort Condominium.  In The Blue Mountains, the rate for Resort Condominium is equivalent to the rate of Residential.  Commercial is currently almost triple the rate of Residential; therefore, annual cost savings from this property tax change for members is significant.

Resort Shuttle

The resort shuttle is provided as an alternative mode of transportation around the resort.  Our members enjoy route servicing a well as an on demand service 365 days per year.

 Transportation

A service agreement with a local taxi company enhances the guest experience for patrons and members enjoying the shopping and dining in the Village.  A public transit service is available between the Resort and Collingwood/Wasaga Beach partially funded by the BMVA and Blue Mountain Resort to more fully integrate the Village with the surrounding communities.

 Communications & Information

Members are kept current on Resort activities including government relations by mail, email, website, meetings or enewsletters.  Members and the public can follow the activities of the BMVA on bluemountainvillage.ca, Facebook, Twitter, Trip Advisor and Instagram.  By subscribing to the enewsletter (sign up is provided on bluemountainvillage.ca home page) all the events and activities happening that week in the Resort will be received in automatically to members’ inboxes.  Additionally, a joint event calendar including BMVA events and on hill Blue Mountain Resort events is provided on bluemountainvillage.ca.  The Members Only section on the website provides members with news, privileges and other important communications.

 Member Privileges

Members and their immediate family who reside with them can apply to receive the BMVA Members Privilege card, which entitles them to special discounts and/or upgrades at the Village and Associate Member commercial establishments.   This program is updated twice annually.   Further details on this program can be found in the Members Only section on the Member Privilege Program page of the website.

 Events

Award winning events and animation are provided in the Village on weekends for 10 months of the year and every day during the summer and peak vacation periods i.e. Christmas week.  This fulsome scheduling drives visitation to the Village, supporting revenue generation for members units in rental programs as well as sustaining property values for all members.  A full events calendar is available on the website or via the Blue Mountain Village App, a free download available from the website.

 Government Relations

The BMVA is an advocate in government relations for members; i.e. two year process to successfully amend the Provincial legislature regarding change of tax classification from Commercial to the new Resort Condominium classification and successful lobbying efforts with the Province to cover loss of VAF revenues over an 18 month period during the introduction of HST.  By monitoring all levels of government activities, the BMVA ensures our members’ best interests will have a voice.

 Marketing

The BMVA  marketing and branding efforts are driven by strategies on showcasing the Blue Mountain Village as a premier four season destination.  This is primarily done through providing signature events and festivals.  Promotion of these activities is done regionally and in the GTA.  There is extensive use of social media and media relations to enhance the marketing programs.  Ensuring consistent brand messaging for the Village and working with regional and provincial parties, provides long term sustainability for programming while ensuring a consistent guest experience to grow visitation.  Sustainable growth of visitation provides security for members that their investment will always be considered so that value will also grow in the future.
